Cech Expected To Retire
Arsenal’s on-loan goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez could return to the club as number two keeper at the end of his loan spell at Reading.
Martinez was sent out to the Championship strugglers at the end of January and has since made six league appearances for the Royals. He has conceded seven goals although most of those came in the 4-0 defeat at Sheffield Wednesday.
It’s his sixth loan spell away from Arsenal for the 26-year-old who has made just four Premier League appearances since his arrival at the Emirates.
But Arsenal may promote Martinez to the first-team subs’ bench should Petr Cech decide to retire at the end of this season.
The Gunners have a transfer budget this summer estimate at around €50million (£44million) and were forced to consider only loan signings during the January transfer window. Cech is expected to leave when his contract expires this summer and the only way Arsenal can replace him without spending is by bringing back Martinez. Unai Emery wants to spend his budget strengthening his first team rather than strengthening his bench.
