New Link With Milan Midfielder
Manchester United could make another bid to sign the AC Milan midfielder Alessio Romagnoli this summer. However, they will face competition from one of Milan’s Serie A rivals as well as another Premier League side.
United have been linked before with the 24-year-old and reports last summer claimed that they saw a £44million bid rejected for the Italy international.
Romagnoli was made Milan captain last summer following the departure for Juventus of Leonardo Bonnucci. Juve are also keeping tabs on his situation. So are Chelsea who could make a move this summer if their appeal against a two-window transfer ban drags on in to the transfer window.
But Milan coach Gennaro Gattuso believes that Romagnoli can make history if he stays with the club. Speaking after a 3-0 home win over Empoli, Gattuso told Sky Italia:
“He is priceless – a rare commodity – and it is right that he is with us. I was massacred for making him captain.
“He is now empowered, has great room for improvement. He can be a player who can write an important story with this shirt. In the last year-and-a-half he has found the key inside his head, he is taking better care, he does things with criteria.”
Some outlets claim Manchester United will return with a bid of €75million (£65million). But Milan are challenging for a place in next season’s Champions League. Romagnoli has rejected previous opportunities to leave Milan. A return to Europe’s top table will make a departure this summer even more unlikely.
