Arsenal To Miss Out On Pepe But Hopeful Over Monchi

Bayern Favourites To Land Pepe

Nicolas Pepe Arsenal transfer news

Arsenal could miss out to either Bayern Munich or Paris Saint-Germain in the race for Lille winger Nicolas Pepe.

The Gunners have been keeping tabs on Pepe for much of the season, but the financial constraints now in place at the Emirates mean Arsenal are likely to be outgunned by some of Europe’s wealthier clubs.

Le 10 Sport claims that Bayern are in pole position to sign the Ivorian. The Bundesliga side have been in contact with Pepe’s representatives and are ready to put in a bid in excess of €50million (£44million). That is equal to the whole of Arsenal’s transfer budget this summer.

Paris Saint-Germain have already put in a bid for Pepe. They wanted him at the end of January to replace the injured Neymar. But Lille’s valuation and the danger of falling outside Uefa’s Financial Fair Play rules led to any deal being deferred to the summer.

Gunners Want Monchi

Arsenal have offered the role of technical director to Monchi. The Spaniard is currently in the same role at Serie A side Roma. But he spent 17 years as director of football at Sevilla and was responsible for working closely with the La Liga outfit’s then coach Unai Emery – now at Arsenal.

Former Arsenal legend Marc Overmars has also been linked but the Daily Mirror believes the field has been narrowed down to one.

Monchi is under contract at Roma until 2020 and the Gunners would be expected to pay a release fee of €1million (around £900,000). However, they expect the 50-year-old to take up his position in the summer.
