Under Bid Was Rejected
Arsenal submitted a £26million bid for Roma forward Cengiz Under last summer according to reports from Italy.
The Turkey international has long been a transfer target for the Gunners but according to Calciomercato their initial bid was rejected and Arsenal are believed to have ended their interest at that stage. It isn’t clear exactly when the bid was lodged.
Roma €13.4million to Istanbul Baseksehir in July 2017 for Under. There was also a bonus of €1.5million that has been paid. Anything under €9.2million would lead to a loss on the player. But Under is one of Roma’s ‘untouchables’ and the only way he will be sold is if they receive a bid in excess of €40million (£35million). Arsenal’s total transfer budget this summer is put at £40-45million.
Under is under contract at Roma until 2022.
Manchester United and Bayern Munich are also being linked.
Arsenal’s financial constraints will also scupper any bid for Lille winger Nicolas Pepe. The French side’s manager Christophe Galtier believes Pepe is ready to play in a tougher competition than Ligue 1. However, Lille have put a £60million price tag on the Ivorian.
Again, Manchester United and Bayern Munich are keeping tabs on Pepe.
Arsenal are still being linked with Paris Saint-Germain central defender Christopher Nkunku but the French champions are reported to be unimpressed with the side of the north London club’s offers.
The Gunners could miss out to Barcelona in the race for Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar. The Catalan side have made contact with Aouar’s representatives.
Another Arsenal transfer target, James Rodriguez, looks set to return to Real Madrid when his two-year loan spell at Bayern Munich comes to an end this summer.
