But Frenchman Won’t Sign Just Yet
Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot looks set to snub interest from at least two Premier League clubs and join Barcelona this summer.
The France international has been sidelined by PSG after refusing to sign a new contract with the Ligue 1 club. His current deal expires at the end of this season.
Tottenham Hotspur thought they were close to a £20million transfer in January. But the deaths two weeks apart of Rabiot’s father and his maternal grandmother meant the deal was off.
Arsenal are also being linked having had a long-standing interest in the 23-year-old. Liverpool’s interested ended last summer.
But French newspaper Le Parisien believes that Rabiot will instead sign a contract with Barcelona and move to the Nou Camp.
With his current deal so close to expiring he is now free to speak to foreign clubs. The paper suggests he has already come to an agreement with the La Liga side who see him as the long-term replacement for Ivan Rakitic.
Rabiot has yet to put pen to paper and Barca are reportedly becoming irritated. Friday’s Mundo Deportivo from the Catalan capital claimed they “tired of waiting” for the Frenchman. He will receive a signing-on bonus of €10million (£9million).
But Rabiot is keen not to leave his options open and he won’t sign until the last minutes. He wants to keep all his options open but a switch to Barca is looking favourite.
