United Join Chase For Algerian
Manchester United are one of a number of clubs interested in Porto winger Yacine Brahimi.
The 29-year-old is a free agent when his contract expires at the end of the season and according to the Portguese newspaper Correio da Manha he is being watched by United, Arsenal, Everton and Wolves.
Scouts from all those clubs will have been on hand to watch the Algeria international in this week’s 2-1 Champions League defeat for Porto at Roma. But there would have disappointment when Brahimi limped off midway through the second half with an ankle injury. He looks set to be out of action for at least the next three weeks including the top-of-the-table clash with Benfica on 3 March.
Lascelles Was On United Target List
Newcastle United central defender Jamaal Lascelles was a Manchester United transfer target before Jose Mourinho was sacked.
The 25-year-old was a surprise addition to a list of potential targets that also included Harry Maguire, Toby Alderweireld and Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly.
Newcastle responded to United’s interest by offering Lascelles a long-term deal to 2024 which he has since signed.
United sacked Mourinho the week before Christmas replacing him with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on an interim basis to the end of the season.
United Want Stars To Sign
Manchester United are hoping for goalkeeper David De Gea and striker Marcus Rashford to sign new contracts before the end of the season.
Talks have taken place with representatives of both players and executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is hopeful they will join Anthony Martial, Luke Shaw, Chris Smalling, Scott McTominay, Phil Jones and Ashley Young in signing new deals. Talks are also under way with Juan Mata and Ander Herrera. The Spaniards are out of contract at the end of the season.
