Bid Came Before Sancho Joined Dortmund
Arsenal tried to sign Jadon Sancho while he was at Manchester City. That’s according to former Gunners boss Arsene Wenger.
Sancho was part of the Borussia Dortmund side that lost 3-0 to Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley on Wednesday night in a Champions League Round of 16 first leg tie. But the England international has starred for Dortmund in his second season since an £8million move from Manchester City.
Speaking to BeIn Sport about Sancho, Wenger admitted that the 18-year-old is under enormous pressure to perform and he revealed that he was a target for the Gunners before he left the Etihad.
“I wanted to take him from Man City when he didn’t get the games,” said Wenger. “I tried as well to lure him because he’s from London. I tried to get him to Arsenal as well.”
“I must say they get a lot of money before they have played games. It doesn’t improve the hunger index. So I must say for this boy it’s a test because they are rich before they play.”
City put a clause in the transfer agreement with Dortmund that entitles them to match any bid the Bundesliga side receive. A number of top clubs are believed to be mulling over bids.
