At Least Four Other Clubs Interested
Manchester United are the latest club to be linked with a move for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot.
The 23-year-old France international is out of contract at the end of the season and is being linked with Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Barcelona with the Catalan side said to be favourites to secure his signature. But Spanish newspaper AS claims United can be added to that list.
Rabiot has been suspended by PSG for not signing a new deal. His last appearance for the club was in the Champions League clash with Red Star Belgrade on 11 December. In a subsequent meeting with members of the PSG hierarchy he said he would not be signing a new deal with the club. As a result he was told he wouldn’t be considered for any future games. However, Rabiot has been named in PSG’s squad for the knockout stages of the Champions League although he isn’t expected to play against United when the two sides meet in a Round of 16 first-leg tie at Old Trafford this evening.
Barcelona were reported earlier this season to be considering two new midfield signings in the summer. The La Ligsa side had complilked a three-man short-list consisting of Ajax’s Frenkie de Jong, Manchester United’s Paul Pogba and Rabiot. De Jong was signed in January before being loaned back to the Dutch side while Pogba looks to be out of bounds following a resurgence in his form under interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. That just leaves Rabiot.
Tottenham Hotspur thought they were close to a €20million (£18million) transfer in January, but the death of Rabiot’s father put the deal on hold.
