Wales International To Become Highest-Earning British Player
Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey will earn £400,000 a week when he moves to Juventus at the end of June.
The Serie A side announced on Monday evening that the Wales international will make his long-expected move to Serie A when his contract with the Gunners expires at the end of the present campaign. The news was confirmed both by Ramsey himself and by Arsenal.
But the BBC claims that Ramsey’s wages at Juventus will equate to £400,000 a week. That will make him the highest-paid British player in football.
Ramsey currently earns around £110,000 a week at Arsenal but he was believed to be demanding £300,000 a week to stay with the Gunners. But with Mesut Ozil on £350,000 a week and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on £300,000 a week, Arsenal decided that Ramsey’s demands were too high. Plus they would have fallen foul of Uefa’s Financial Fair Play regulations. As a result, the Premier League side withdrew their offer to him in September.
Juventus announced on Monday evening that Ramsey would join them on 1 July in a deal lasting four years. No transfer fee is payable under the Bosman ruling but Juve are to pay €3.7million (£3.2million) in additional costs – believed to be agents’ commissions – by 10 July 2019.
In an Instagram post later on Monday, Ramsey confirmed the news and he thanked the club’s supporters for their loyalty and support.
Arsenal added in a statement: “He has always been a consummate professional and will always have a special place in the hearts and memories of Arsenal fans around the world.”
