Ole Stakes His Case
Manchester United interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer moved a step closer to landing the job on a permanent basis with the news that his agent met with one of the club’s ruling Glazer family.
United won 3-0 at Fulham on Saturday to make it ten wins out of 11 since Solskjaer took charge. It also sent the side into the Premier League’s top four.
Solskjaer’s agent Jim Solbakken was at the game and afterwards he met with United co-chairman Avram Glazer and executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward for talks about the club’s long-term plans. Solskjaer may well be in those plans after changing the side’s fortunes on the pitch.
Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino is also a candidate for the job. However, United face a formidable obstacle in Spurs chairman Daniel Levy who would oppose such a bid. Levy’s tactics of demanding a huge compensation fee in excess of £30million and stringing out talks over much of the summer leaves Pochettino an unappealing proposition.
Former Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane is another possibility. The Frenchman is currently out of work after leaving the Bernabeu after their Champions League triumph over Liverpool.
United will stick to their plan of waiting until the end of the season before making the appointment.
Sessegnon, Ndombele, Godfrey
Manchester United are being linked once again with a move for Fulham left winger Ryan Sessegnon. The 18-year-old is stalling on a new deal at Craven Cottage and will wait to see where Fulham are playing next season before making any decision on his future. The west London club lie in 19th place in the Premier League table, seven points from safety.
The England under-21 international has lost his place under new boss Claudio Ranieri who has called for more aggression from the teenager.
Sessegnon is out of contract at the end of next season so any decision will have to be made this summer.
Manchester United have made contact with the agent of Lyon forward Tanguy Ndombele over a summer move.
Reports on Saturday linked United with the £70 million-rated 22-year-old who is also being linked with Manchester City.
Now, Le 10 Sport in France claim both English clubs have had talks with Ndombele’s representatives.
Even so, Juventus remain in pole position to sign the young Frenchman.
Manchester United will have scouts at the East Anglian derby between Norwich City and Ipswich Town today.
United are keeping tabs on Norwich’s £10 million-rated defender Ben Godfrey who is also a target for Lyon and RB Leipzig.
