Juventus Still Want Pogba

Paul Pogba Manchester United

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is still a transfer target for Serie A side Juventus despite the upturn in his fortunes since the departure of Jose Mourinho.

Reports from Italy claim Juve want to pair Pogba with Aaron Ramsey next season. The Wales international is believed to have signed a pre-contract agreement with the Italian club and will move to Turin when his contract with Arsenal expires in the summer. An official announcement has yet to be made.

According to IlBianconero, Pogba will leave Manchester United if the Red Devils fail to qualify for the Champions League. United remain in sixth place in the Premier League – a position they have occupied for two months. But the gap between United and the fourth and final Champions League spot has narrowed from 11 points when Jose Mourinho was sacked and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was installed as interim manager to just two points now.

Pogba spent four seasons with Juventus after leaving Manchester United in 2012. He was in constant contact with his former team-mates earlier this season but the arrival of Solskjaer and the resultant upturn in fortunes makes the operation to return to Italy a little more difficult.

Chelsea To Challenge United For Pochettino

Solskjaer is still being linked with the permanent manager’s job at Old Trafford although Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino is also a candidate.

But United face competition for Pochettino from Chelsea, according to reports. Current Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has had text messages from absent owner Roman Abramovich suggesting he could be sacked if he doesn’t deliver Champions League football.

That has led to the Sunday Express to speculate over a challenge to United for Pochettino at the end of the season.

Both United and Chelsea would face opposition to any move from Spurs chairman Daniel Levy who is expected to demand over £30million in compensation for the Argentine.

United Watching Brooks

Meanwhile, United are keeping tabs on Bournemouth midfielder David Brooks. The 21-year-old has impressed since his £11.5million move from Sheffield United last summer.

Tottenham Hotspur are being linked with a £50million bid although reports today claim United are also monitoring Brooks’s situation.
