Midfielder In Fresh Arsenal Link
Arsenal are still keeping tabs on Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot despite interest from Barcelona.
The Gunners have been monitoring Rabiot’s situation at Paris Saint-Germain. He has been told he won’t be considered for selection as he is refusing to sign a new deal with the club.
There are echoes of the situation Rabiot found himself in at the start of the 2015-16 season. Then, he also refused to sign a new deal only be to be put in with the club’s reserves playing in the fourth tier of French football until he put pen to paper on a new contract.
Reports today claim Arsenal believe they have the edge in the race for Rabiot’s signature. Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool have also been linked and there was strong interest from Barcelona. But the Catalan side have come to an agreement to sign Frenkie de Jong from Ajax this summer and some outlets in the UK claim they have cooled their interest in Rabiot as a result.
However, reports earlier this season claimed that Barca would make a move for two midfielders next summer and that there were three names on their target list. De Jong has already signed but Rabiot and Paul Pogba were also being linked. Pogba’s improvement in form means he is a more remote prospect than Rabiot although he could leave Old Trafford if United fail to qualify for the Champions League. Rabiot would be available on a free transfer.
Arsenal may be confident over a deal for Rabiot but it is by no means cut and dried.
