Arsenal signed Denis Suarez from Barcelona on loan until the end of the season. But in a late twist to the move it only happened after Suarez signed a new deal with the Catalan side that could keep him there until 2021. The Gunners ditched a loan transfer for Barca winger Malcom after baulking at the size of the loan fee. Emile Smith-Rowe has joined Bundesliga side RB Leipzig until the end of the season. Eddie Nketiah remains at Arsenal after a loan move to Bundesliga side Augsburg fell through.

Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini has flown to China to talk terms over a move to Shandong Luneng. Defender Ro-Shaun Williams has joined League One side Shrewsbury Town while five other reserve and youth-team players have gone out on loan. United are keeping tabs on Jadon Sancho ahead of a possible £90m transfer bid this summer. More on those stories here.

Chelsea midfielder Callum Hudson-Odoi’s hopes of a transfer to Bayern Munich ended when the German side decided they weren’t going to make any more new signings this season. Defender Gary Cahill also remains at Stamford Bridge having turned down deadline-day offers from Fulham, Juventus and Monaco. Two players who did leave were striker Michy Batshuayi who has joined Crystal Palace on loan and winger Lucas Piazon who joins Italian club Chievo Verona.

Talks took place between Tottenham Hotspur and Schalke 04 over a move for Spurs striker Vincent Janssen. However, the Dutchman was unable to secure a move.

Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye remains at Goodison after the Toffees rejected a £26.2m deadline-day bid from Paris Saint-Germain.

Liverpool midfielder Lazar Markovic has joined Fulham on a free transfer.

Fulham striker Aboubakar Kamara has left on loan for Turkish club Yeni Malatyaspor. The 24-year-old was arrested last week at the club’s training ground.

Newcastle United broke their 14-year-old transfer record with the £21m signing of Miguel Almiron from MLS side Atlanta United. The deal is also an outgoing record for an MLS player. The Magpies also signed Monaco full-back Antonio Barecca on loan.

Manchester City’s only piece of business was the £7m transfer of young midfielder Ante Palaversa from Hajduk Split.

Burnley have signed 38-year-old Peter Crouch from Stoke City with striker Sam Vokes heading in the opposite direction.

Wolves have made defender Jonny Castro Otto’s move permanent for a transfer fee of £15m.

Cardiff City have signed midfielder Leandro Bacuna from Reading for £4m.

Brighton have completed the permanent signings of striker Jan Mlakar from Slovenia’s NK Maribor and midfielder Tudor-Cristian Baluta from Romania’s FC Viitorul Constanta. on three-and-a-half-year deals. Both players will remain at their former clubs for the rest of the season.

Both Brighton and Southampton failed with bids for 17-year-old Bolton Wanderers midfielder Luca Connell.

Southampton turned down offers from four Premier League clubs for striker Charlie Austin.

Leicester City have signed Youri Tielemans on loan from Monaco with Adrien Silva joining the Ligue 1 strugglers. Midfielder Andy King has joined Derby County.

Watford midfielder Ben Wilmot has joined Serie A side Udinese.

West Ham United defender Reece Oxford has joined German side Augsburg until the end of the season.
