Gunners In For Cahill?
Arsenal are being linked with a surprising move for Chelsea defender Gary Cahill as they seek to solve their defensive crisis.
The Gunners are already without Rob Holding for the rest of the season, but their injury problems multiplied during Friday’s FA Cup Fourth Round exit at the hands of Manchester United. Sokratis Papastathopoulos picked up an ankle injury and Laurent Koscielny suffered a broken jaw as Unai Emery’s woes increased.
Cahill has fallen down the pecking order under Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri. His only appearance in the Premier League came in the goalless draw at West Ham United in September and his last appearance in any competition was in the Europa League victory over PAOK Salonica at the end of November – almost two months ago.
The 33-year-old was linked with a loan transfer to Fulham earlier this month. That move collapsed although there has since been interest from Crystal Palace.
Arsenal are only likely to make loan signings this month having spent all their transfer budget for the season last summer.
Reason For Perisic Transfer Request Revealed
Meanwhile, reports from Italy are claiming that a frosty relationship with club skipper Mauro Icardi is behind Ivan Perisic’s decision to hand in a transfer request at Inter Milan.
According to Calciomercato in Italy, Perisic and Icardi don’t see eye to eye. The Argentina international is regarded as the senior player both in status and reputation so if either player is likely to leave it will be Perisic.
The Croatia international is being linked with a move to Arsenal although the Gunners’ desire for a loan move now and a permanent transfer in the summer is likely to scupper such a move. Inter are looking for a fee of around €35-40million (£31-36million).
