But United Face Competition For Dane
Manchester United are set to turn their attentions this summer to Tottenham Hotspur winger Christian Eriksen if reports today are to be believed.
The Denmark international is dragging his heels over a new contract at the north London club as he enters the final 18 months of his current deal.
Eriksen currently earns £75,000 a week although that puts him well behind the club’s two top earns Harry Kane and Dele Alli.
Real Madrid were linked last week with the 26-year-old – he turns 27 next month. But the La Liga giants have now ended their interest in favour of a summer move for Chelsea midfielder Eden Hazard.
But according to the Daily Express, United and Chelsea will battle it out for Eriksen this summer.
United could find themselves at a slight disadvantage in that Eriksen is known to enjoy living in London.
Eriksen was watched extensively by Manchester United when he was with Ajax. However, he moved to White Hart Lane in August 2013 for a fee of £11million.
Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has urged Eriksen to stay with the club.
“Christian is a very clever person and of course there’s going to be a decision from him, from the club, from different parts and I hope he can be committed to the club long-term,” said the Argentine.
But Pochettino is also being linked with interest from Manchester United and if he leaves for Old Trafford that could tip the scales in favour of the Red Devils.
