Two More Clubs In For Midfielder
Barcelona have made contact with the representatives of Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata about a possible move this summer.
Mata is out of contract at Old Trafford at the end of the season and talks have taken place about a new deal with Manchester United. However, the club’s policy is to only offer one-year deals to players over the age of 30. He would be likely to receive a longer deal with Barca.
Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain have also been linked with interest in the former Spain international who currently earns around £140,000 a week with United.
Mata is free to speak to overseas clubs about a pre-contract agreement. That leaves United vulnerable given that the club have no permanent manager and are unlikely to have one until the summer.
But reports elsewhere today are also linking Mata with interest from Arsenal. Gunners boss Unai Emery knows Mata well from their time together at Valencia.
Arsenal would have to wait until Mata’s contract with United expires at the end of June before formally opening any talks.
The Spaniard joined United five years ago this month but only nine of his 15 appearances so far this season have come as a member of the starting line-up.
