Roma sporting director Monchi is keen to move to Arsenal and work once again with Unai Emery.

That’s the latest report as the Gunners continue their search for their first technical director.

Monchi worked with current boss Unai Emery at Sevilla with the two men capturing three successive Europa League titles between 2014 and 2016. However, he had been appointed director of football in 2000 having spent his entire playing career as a goalkeeper with the club. He set up a vast worldwide scouting network and was responsbile for developing the club’s academy system.

The partnership with Emery was broken up when the coach headed for Paris Saint-Germain in 2016. Monchi also handed in his notice at Sevilla although he stayed on until 2017 when he moved to Rona.

“I know my name is being associated with Arsenal but I am concentrating on my job with Roma,” Monchi said earlier this week. “However it is a pleasure being linked with a club like that – but it is not first time that happens.”

Meanwhile, former head of recruitment Sven Mislintat has spoken about his exit from the Emirates. Arsenal have confirmed that the German will leave the club after little more than a year in his current role. He is expected to return to his homeland with Bayern Munich said to be interested.

“It’s been an amazing experience to work at a great club like Arsenal in what has been a big time of change,” Mislintat told the club’s official website.

“I am excited about what the future holds for the club and am looking forward to new challenges for myself.”

Mislintat is believed to have become disillusioned after being passed over for the technical director’s role. It is also thought that he was unable to build an effective working relationship with Unai Emery.
