Talks Reach Impasse
Arsenal transfer target Denis Suarez looks set to remain at Barcelona at least until the end of the season.
The Gunners have been in talks over a loan move for the Spain international with a permanent move at the end of the season. But the two sides are far apart over how the move will be structured.
Arsenal want an option to purchase built in to the loan deal that would see the Gunners given the chance to buy Suarez at the end of the season providing his performances impress the club. But Barcelona are looking at a temporary loan deal with an automatic purchase option for a fee of €20million (£18million).
According to ESPN FC talks have ground to a halt although there is still the chance that Suarez could leave before the end of the month. When asked on Tuesday about potential departures sporting director Eric Abidal admitted some players could still leave while coach Ernesto Valverde admitted that a departure from Suarez was still possible.
Deals of this nature have a habit of being revived close to deadline day and the same could happen here.
Suarez has made just eight appearances for Barcelona so far this season. His only two starts for the side have come in the Copa del Rey.
Meanwhile, Arsenal have confirmed that head of recruitment Sven Mislintat will leave the club after little more than a year in his post.
It is thought the German was unable to strike up an effective working relationship with Emery and had been passed over for the new job of technical director.
Roma sporting director Monchi is being linked – a man Emery worked with when the two men were at Sevilla.
“Now I can only say he is working in Roma,” Emery said of Monchi. “I worked very well with him in Sevilla for three and a half years. My relationship with him is good but this work is for the club and the issue is the club’s responsibility. I can say to you only that he is a good person and a good professional.”
