Iniital Loan Move Likely
Manchester United full-back Matteo Darmian is close to a move to Serie A side Juventus.
Darmian, 29, has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford. His 89th-minute substitute appearance in Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Brighton and Hove Albion was only his sixth of the season.
The former Italy international has long been linked with a return to his homeland and he looks set to move to Juventus on an initial loan. Darmian will move to the Serie A leaders on a temporary basis until the end of the season but Juve will have an option to purchase the right-back in the summer for a fixed fee of €8million (£7.1million). They will also pay a loan fee of €3million (£2.6million).
Darmian’s current deal with Manchester United expires at the end of next season.
The Italian was bought for £12.7million from Torino in July 2015. But he has failed to nail down a regular first-team place in the side. He has made just 59 Premier League appearances – 91 in all competitions during his three-and-a-half years at the club.
