Ozil Offered To Serie A Giants
Arsenal’s move for Yannick Carrasco is dependent on the sale this month of Mesut Ozil.
According to reports from Italy, Arsenal have already offered Ozil to two of Serie A’s top clubs: Juventus and AC Milan. But both sides have balked at his £350,000-a-week wages and unless the German shows some willingness to take a pay cut he won’t be leaving the Emirates.
Carrasco is also on a high wage. The 25-year-old moved from Atletico Madrid to Chinese Super League side Dalian Yifang last February on wages rumoured to be €11million a year. That’s almost £200,000 a week – a figure believed to be nett of taxes. In other words, Carrasco earns as much as Ozil.
The Belgium international scored seven goals in 25 appearances in his debut season with Dalian Yifang. But he may be open to some negotiation on his wages. Very few clubs in Europe can afford that kind of money and his wife Noemie Happart said on Sunday that they are keen to leave the Far East.
“Yannick feels good in China but it’s a very different culture,” she told RTBF.
“It’s far from our families and our friends. But it is true that when we heard that some clubs were interested in Yannick, it interested us too. Now, we will see what will happen, how things will unfold and who knows, perhaps we can go back to Europe.”
Ms Happart added that there are proposals from Germany, England, Italy and Spain but that there is nothing concrete as yet.
However, the onus is on Ozil to take a pay cut before any move for Carrasco can take place. That looks unlikely.
