German Could Be Sold To Free Up Funds
Arsenal manager Unai Emery is ready to let Mesut Ozil go this month in order to free up funds for new players.
That’s according to the Daily Mail which believes Ozil could be on his way out of the Emirates by the end of the January transfer window.
Ozil has fallen down the pecking order this season under Emery and was left out of the squad entirely for Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at West Ham United. There has been speculation over a possible exit at the end of the season but the latest rumours claim that move could be brought forward to this month.
The former Germany international is Arsenal’s highest earner on £350,000 a week. But those wages make him less likely to leave as few clubs can afford that kind of money. Ozil is also believed to be less than keen on a loan move. A summer move still looks a likelier option.
Arsenal are on the verge of signing Denis Suarez from Barcelona but the deal has stalled over the prospect of a right-to-purchase. Barcelona want the Gunners to automatically buy Suarez in the summer and their wish is for the loan agreement to include a permanent deal in the summer. Arsenal want to see Suarez perform before making any commitment to purchase.
