Former Liverpool Man In United Link
Manchester United are being linked with a summer move for Barcelona forward Phillippe Coutinho.
The former Liverpool player has only been at the Nou Camp for a year but he has fallen down the pecking order this season with coach Ernesto Valverde preferring Ousmane Dembele or Arturo Vidal. Only nine of his starts in La Liga have come as a member of the starting eleven.
But Barcelona are eyeing up a move for their former player Neymar in a transfer bid that could eclipse the £198million they received for the Brazilian in August 2017. They will need to sell before they can spend such a summer and Coutinho looks the favourite to go.
Barca will demand €120million (£108million) for Coutinho which automatically rules out most most clubs.
Coutinho is only one option for Barcelona although the size of the fee makes him the likeliest.
Not only will the transfer fee be steep but his wages will also test United’s resolve. He was already on £200,000 a week when he was with Liverpool but he managed to double his money to around £400,000 a week when he moved to Barcelona.
Again, Manchester United are one of the few clubs in the world who could match that sum.
