Fresh Link With Defender
Juventus could offer Arsenal their Morocco international Mehdi Benatia in a bid to get the Aaron Ramsey deal over the line this month.
A switch to Juve looks a nailed-on certainty for Ramsey whose Arsenal contract expires at the end of the season. An agreement is expected to be announced following next week’s Italian Super Cup clash with AC Milan.
But Juve are keen to bring in Ramsey this month according to reports from Italy. That would necessitate either the payment of a transfer fee or a player going the other way.
Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport claims Benatia could be the makeweight. The 31-year-old central defender has made just five starts in Serie A so far this season and been an unused substitute on 14 occasions.
Benatia is the second player to be linked with Arsenal as part of the Ramsey deal. Last month, Juventus midfielder Sami Khedira was said to be a target for Arsenal. But with the Gunners undergoing a defensive injury crisis at the moment Benatia may be more suitable for manager Unai Emery.
Arsenal were also linked with Benatia late last year.
