Release Fee Stands At £45m
Arsenal transfer target Denis Suarez is keen on a move to the Emirates and he has told the Barcelona hierarchy according to one newspaper report today.
The Gunners were linked over the weekend with a move for former Manchester City academy starlet Suarez. However, Arsenal are only keen on an initial loan spell with an option to purchase next summer.
Suarez is under contract at the Nou Camp to 2020 although Barcelona do have the option of an additional year. He has a release clause in his current deal with the club of €50million (£45million) although Arsenal aren’t interested in paying anywhere near that amount.
Suarez – who turned 25 on Sunday – has hardly been used by Barca coach Ernesto Valverde this season. His two substitute appearances in La Liga have amounted to just 17 minutes of football. But Barca don’t want him to leave without a replacement in place.
Arsenal boss Unai Emery knows Suarez well. The forward spent a season on loan at Sevilla in 2014-15 when Emery was in charge at the club.
It is believed that Suarez is the only deal that the Gunners are working on at present. The club spent over £70million during the summer transfer window and financial restrictions are preventing any further huge expenditure this month. That would suggest a move for Belgian forward Yannick Carrasco will only take place if Suarez arrives on loan.
