Greece International Is Top Serie A Defender
Manchester United are preparing to bid €40million (£34million) for Roma central defender Kostas Manolas according to reports from Italy.
Tuttomercatoweb claims the Red Devils are ready to meet the release clause in Manolas’s contract with the Serie A side.
The Greece international has been linked in the past with interest from Arsenal but United could be ready to steal a march on the Gunners.
The rumour flies in the face of claims that interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will only be allowed to make loan signings in the winter transfer window. United would then hold back their transfer kitty for whoever takes over on a permanent basis in the summer.
Manolas has spent four years with Roma and is regarded as one of the best centre halves in Serie A. The 27-year-old has also been watched by Chelsea.
Young In Serie A Link
Manchester United full-back Ashley Young could be a summer transfer target for Serie A giants Inter Milan.
Young, 33, is out of contract at the end of the season and talks have taken place over a new deal although there had been hopes that an agreement could have been reached by the start of this month. United tend to offer just one-year contracts to players once they reach the age of 30.
The England international is now at the stage where he can open talks with overseas clubs about a potential move in the summer. Inter are keeping tabs on his situation according to the Daily Mirror.
The paper adds that Young earns £130,000 a week at Manchester United. Much of that will be made up of appearance money as the club tends to reduce a player’s basic pay as he gets older to reflect the possibility that he may not be used as much. That hasn’t happened in Young’s case. He has made 14 Premier League starts and one appearance off the bench so far this season.
Young also acts as team captain when Antonio Valencia is unavailable. Jose Mourinho stripped Paul Pogba of vice-captain status in September and appointed Young in his place.
