Ozil To Head Back To Madrid?
Arsenal will investigate a possible swap deal involving midfielder Mesut Ozil and Real Madrid’s Spain international Isco.
The Independent claims the Gunners are keen on a move for Isco who was a target for the club during the Arsene Wenger era.
Both players have fallen out of favour at their respective clubs. Ozil was left out of the Gunners’ 18-man squad for the Carabao Cup clash with Tottenham Hotspur this week while Isco has fallen down the pecking order following Santi Solari’s appointment as head coach at Madrid
The report claims Ozil remains a popular figure at the Bernabeu where he played between 2010 and 2013. However, there were question marks over his attitude during his final season with the Spanish giants. The fact that he has turned 30 also suggests he won’t be a transfer target for Real Madrid.
Ozil’s £350,000-a-week wages remain an obstacle to any club willing to sign him. There would need to be an acceptance on his part that he would take a cut in pay for any move.
There is also a huge discrepancy in the respective valuations of the two players. Isco is valued at £100million by Madrid while Arsenal will struggle to get more than £30million for Ozil.
Chelsea and Manchester City are also being linked with Isco. Ozil is a loan target for Inter Milan.
