Inter Only Want Loan
Arsenal may find it difficult to offload midfielder Mesut Ozil after it emerged that Inter Milan are only interested in a loan deal for the German.
Ozil signed a new contract with the Gunners in January making him the club’s highest-paid player on a wage of £350,000 a week. But that deal is hampering efforts to sell the 30-year-old.
Manager Unai Emery dropped Ozil for Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup defeat to Tottenham Hotspur apparently over a perceived lack of work-rate from the German. The feeling is that Ozil doesn’t fit into Emery’s long-term plans.
But Arsenal face a struggle in selling the former Real Madrid man unless he would be willing to take a big cut in pay.
Inter are looking to take Ozil on loan until the end of the season and are looking to Arsenal to paying a good chunk of his wages while he is at the San Siro. The Serie A side are treading carefully as they don’t wish to fall foul of Uefa’s Financial Fair Play regulations. Inter have had to panic sell in the last two summer transfer windows in order to stay within the rules.
It means Arsenal could be stuck with Ozil who still has two-and-a-half years left on his current deal.
