Ozil Left Out Of Derby Match
Inter Milan remain interested in Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil following the German’s omission from Wednesday night’s Carabou Cup defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.
Ozil had a spell on the sidelines with a back injury last month although he made his return for the Europa League victory over Qarabag last week. He was also part of the Arsenal side that lost 3-2 at Southampton on Sunday. But he was left out of the 18-man squad for last night’s north London derby apparently for tactical reasons.
Ozil was an unused substitute when Arsenal played Bournemouth a month ago with manager Unai Emery claiming he only wanted players who were up for a physical challenge. It was a broad hint that perhaps the Arsenal boss didn’t see his highest-paid player as part of his long-term plans.
Inter Milan have been linked with Ozil who only signed a new deal with the Gunners at the end of January. But his £350,000-a-week wages are thought to be out of reach for the Serie A side.
Ozil would have to take a pay cut to move to the San Siro but he may decided to take the hint and leave rather than become increasingly sidelined.
