But Barcelona Are In Pole Position
Liverpool transfer target Adrien Rabiot is likely to be sold in January by Paris Saint-Germain. But the Reds may have missed out to Barcelona in the race for his signature.
The 23-year-old has been linked with interest from Anfield as well as from the Liverpool’s Premier League rivals Arsenal.
But Rabiot is out of contract at the end of the season and is refusing to put pen to paper on a new contract with the French club. The last time he did this, in 2014, he was dropped to the reserves playing in the fourth division until he signed a new deal.
This time there will be a similar sort of sanction. Sporting director Antero Henrique recently revealed that Rabiot has given notice of his intention to leave and that he will not be considered for the remainder of his contract. but PSG aren’t willing to allow Rabiot to leave on a free transfer in the summer.
His most recent appearance for the side was in last week’s 4-1 victory at Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League.
The France international is free to discuss personal terms with foreign clubs from 1 January. But French newspaper Le Parisien claims he has already agreed a deal with Barcelona. Whether that means a move in January or a wait until next summer hasn’t been made clear.
Rabiot has been on Barcelona’s wishlist for some months due to his youth and his experience. Despite his age he has already made over 200 first-team appearances for PSG.
