Bailly, Cahill, Calero All On Arsenal Wishlist
Arsenal are looking to sign a new centre-back in January and have drawn up a shortlist of three potential candidates.
The Gunners are facing an injury crisis with Rob Holding ruled out for the rest of the season with cruciate knee ligament injury and Laurent Koscielny ready to be pressed back in to action following a long injury lay-off of his own.
According to the Daily Mirror, Arsenal are interested in Manchester United’s Eric Bailly, Chelsea’s Gary Cahill and Real Valladolid’s Fernando Calero and will sign one of the trio in the forthcoming transfer window.
Neither Bailly nor Cahill are getting regular first-team football at their respective clubs. But United will demand at least £20million for Bailly while Cahill turns 33 later this month. A player’s age is no longer a problem at Arsenal who signed 34-year-old Stephan Lichtsteiner in the summer.
Calero looks to be the best value out of the trio. He has an €11million (£10million) release clause in his contract with Valladolid although the La Liga side are in talks over a new deal.
But Arsenal face competition for Calero’s signature. Both Sevilla and Borussia Dortmund are tracking the defender and could put in bids of their own next month.
