Chambers Staying At Fulham
Arsenal won’t be able to recall defender Callum Chambers from his loan spell at Fulham despite the Gunners being beset by an injury crisis.
Shkodran Mustafi and Sokratis Papastathopoulos are both sidelined with injuries and Rob Holding has joined them in the treatment room after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament during Wednesday’s 2-2 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford. Holding is expected to be out of action for the next nine months. Konstantinos Mavrapanos has also been out since the start of the campaign with a groin injury and Nacho Monreal is out with a hamstring injury.
Laurent Koscielny could be considered by Unai Emery. But there is no clause in Callum Chambers’ loan agreement with Fulham. The 23-year-old has established himself as a regular starting member of the Cottagers’ side. He has started eight Premier League games so far this season and been a substitute on two more occasions. He started 10 matches in the league for Arsenal last season and was also a substitute twice more.
Meanwhile, Arsenal won’t punish a number of players snapped inhaling hippy crack in a London club.
A newspaper expose revealed that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette, Mesut Ozil, Sead Kolasinac and Matteo Guendouzi had all been snapped inhaling the substance. But in a statement on Friday, Arsenal said that as the incident had happened during a pre-season bonding session no action would be taken.
“The players will be spoken to about this — and reminded of their responsibilities as representatives of the club,” the statement said.
