Manchester United Want Spurs Boss Pochettino

United Willing To Pay £40m

Mauricio Pochettino Manchester United

Manchester United want Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino as their next manager but it will take £40million before Spurs agree to part with their man.

That’s according to The Sun which claims United won’t have to pay out much in compensation to Jose Mourinho if he fails to finish in the top four.

United managers are judged on whether or not they qualify for the Champions League and Mourinho almost lost his job at the end of his first season when the club finished in sixth place in the league. But his skin was saved when United won the Europa League to sneak in to the Champions League by the back door.

United lie in eighth place in the Premier League but have slipped to eight points behind a top four slot.

According to The Sun, Pochettino is the only contender to replace Mourinho. It claims the Manchester United hierarchy are convinced the club will still be an attractive proposition even despite the current turmoil at Old Trafford.

Pochettino is frustrated at Spurs’ lack of investment in the summer when they were the only Premier League club not to spend in the transfer market.

The paper adds that United would be willing to spend up to £40million in compensation to Spurs. The north London side have run well over budget on their stadium rebuild and Daniel Levy is likely to dig in his heels. Tottenham have finished in the top four on the three successive occasions under Pochettino who moved from Southampton in 2014.

United Full-Backs In Demand

Two London clubs are interested in Manchester United full-backs.

Fulham are keen on Matteo Darmian who is being linked once again with a move away from Old Trafford.

Darmian has played just three times for United this season and he is in the final year of his contract with United.

But he wants a return to Italy. Inter Milan and Lazio are being linked.

Meanwhile, West Ham United are interested in Ecuador international Antonio Valencia. The 33-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and looks set to move on.
