Mourinho Praises Manchester United Spirit In Arsenal Draw

United Fight Back Twice

Jose Mourinho Manchester United West Brom interview

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has praised his side’s performance in the 2-2 draw with Arsenal at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

United twice went behind to goals from Shkodran Mustafi and a Marcos Rojo own goal, but they hit back on both occasions. Arsenal’s first-half lead lasted just four minutes before Anthony Martial equalised in the first half and a mere 74 seconds before Jesse Lingard’s response with just over 20 minutes to go.

“I am happy with the soul and heart, but we are not consistent and uniform,” Mourinho said after the match.

“Today was more the same, but with great spirit and people ready to have a go and fight hard, it was a credit to the team.

“They went to the limit and were really tired. Some of them had not played all season, Chris Smalling playing in very difficult condition, but Arsenal were only dangerous when we lost the ball in bad areas.

“This is a performance of big soul and heart, [Marcus] Rashford, just to give a name, gave everything for the shirt. But even from our bench you could feel the little panic when the ball comes to our defensive third.”

The result puts United in eighth place in the Premier League but they remain eight points behind the Champions League places.

United Eye Up Turkish Defender

Meanwhile, Manchester United are one of a number of clubs being linked with Galatasaray’s 18-year-old defender Ozan Kabak. The teenager only made his league debut for the side in May but he has made 10 Super Lig appearances in this campaign, nine of which have come as a member of the starting eleven.

United scouts have been watching the £20million-rated player although there are rumours of a £7million release clause in his contract that only applies to clubs outside Turkey.

Arsenal, Roma and Inter Milan are also keeping tabs on Kabak.
