Hazard Set For Summer Move?
Real Madrid have agreed personal terms with Chelsea midfielder Eden Hazard over a move to the Bernabeu.
Reports from Spain claimed on Wednesday that the La Liga giants are ready to make a move for Hazard whose contract at Stamford Bridge expires at the end of next season.
Hazard was fulsome in his praise of Madrid both last season and during the summer. But Chelsea dug in their heels and insisted he was going nowhere.
The Premier League side will demand at least €170million (£150million) for the 27-year-old. But they found themselves in a similar situation last season with Hazard’s Belgium international team-mate Thibaut Courtois. In the end, the goalkeeper left for a fee of around £35million.
Real will play a similar game this time around knowing full well that Chelsea run the risk of losing Hazard for nothing in the summer of 2020.
In the meantime, Chelsea are working on a new deal for the Belgian something coach Maurizio Sarri alluded to when asked about Hazard’s situation earlier this week.
“It’s up to him. I think the club is available to sign a new contract immediately, but it’s up to him if he wants to renew or not. I want Eden here, of course, but I want him here if he wants to stay here.”
Hazard hits 30 just six months after his contract ends. That’s the age where the Blues offer only one-year deals. However, they are likely to offer him a four-year deal if he signs in the coming months.
