Italian Side Admit To Interest
Juventus are considering a summer bid for Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba. The Serie A side were linked during the last transfer window with troubled United player and chief Fabio Paratici admits that the club still have Pogba in mind.
“A return? We have already discussed this many times,” he said. “He’s a great player we’ve had before and are fond of, but now he players for Manchester United.
“We are exploring the market, the president and [vice-chairman] Pavel Nedved, with the help of coach [Massimiliano] Allegri.
“To improve the team we are always careful. We still have great players and we enjoy them. It will not be easy to always have so many strong ones.”
Pogba made his name at Juventus. He joined the club on a free transfer from Manchester United in 2012 and won the Serie A title in each of his four seasons in charge. He then returned to Old Trafford in an £89million transfer in the summer of 2016.
But Pogba’s relationship with Jose Mourinho has come under the spotlight. The Frenchman was unhappy at playing a deeper role following the arrival of Alexis Sanchez. He returned to form during the month of November but he was blasted by Mourinho following Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Southampton. Mourinho told him he was “a virus” and added:
“You don’t play. You don’t respect players and supporters. And you kill the mentality of the good honest people around you.”
This was after Pogba tried to play a fancy flick during the game and ended up giving away the ball.
Pogba is now reported to have responded in a calm manner to Mourinho’s outburst. Sources claim he simply pointed out that the system the side plays means it is difficult for him to pass to anyone.
The chances of both Pogba and Mourinho being together at Old Trafford beyond next summer are small. One of them is likely to go.
