Manchester United Transfer News: Bailly, De Gea Linked With Exits

Bailly To Be Sold In January?

Eric Bailly Manchester United transfer

Manchester United could put defender Eric Bailly up for sale in the January transfer window.

Manager Jose Mourinho looks set to sell one of Bailly or Argentina international Marcos Rojo to help fund a bid for a new defender in the winter market. If the Manchester Evening News is concerned then Bailly looks to have drawn the short straw.

Mourinho has relied largely on Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof as his central defensive partnership so far this season. But United have conceded 21 goals in 13 Premier League games. It’s by far the worst record of any side in the top half of the table. You have to go as far down as 14th-placed West Ham United to find a leakier defence.

Bailly hasn’t played for United since he was taken off after just the side conceded two goals in the opening 19 minutes of the last-gasp win over Newcastle United in October. Since he pulled out of the defeat to West Brom in April he has started just six games.

Speculation now suggests he could be on his way out of Old Trafford just two-and-a-half years since his £30million transfer from Villareal.

De Gea Wains Before Signing New Deal

One player who could be in less of a rush to leave Manchester United is goalkeeper David De Gea.

The Spain international’s current deal expires in the summer although United are expected to trigger a one-year extension that will see him through to the end of next season.

The latest speculation – and is only speculation – is that De Gea will wait to see if Jose Mourinho remains as United boss before he agrees to a new deal.

Mourinho will be sacked if the side fail to secure a place in the Champions League. That finished off his two immediate predecessors: Louis van Gaal and David Moyes. But the Daily Mirror claims De Gea wants to see which direction the club takes if Mourinho does go before deciding his own future.

United are currently in seventh place in the Premier League table after last Saturday’s goalless draw at home to Crystal Palace. But a gap is opening up between them and the top four and they are seven points behind Chelsea in the fourth and final Champions League spot.
