Bayern Coach Under Threat
Arsene Wenger is eyeing up a return to football management with Bayern Munich.
The Bundesliga champions have had an uncharacteristically poor start to the Bundesliga season. This weekend’s 3-3 draw with Fortuna Dusseldorf at the Allianz Arena means they currently lie in sixth place and are already nine points behind leaders Borussia Dortmund.
Coach Niko Kovac only took over in the summer and his position is already under fire. But some sources claim Wenger is a potential replacement for the former Eintracht Frankfurt boss.
Bayern have form when it comes to appointing elderly managers. They turned to Jupp Heynckes last season when Carlo Ancelotti’s reign began to unravel. Heynckes was 72 at the time.
Wenger turned down the chance to return to management earlier this month when he rejected the vacant manager’s job at struggling Fulham. He stated that he didn’t want to work for another Premier League club following almost 22 years with Arsenal.
But the Daily Telegraph claims Wenger is keen on the Bayern post and is looking at a return to management in the New Year.
The Bayern job could crop up sooner than that. Observers believe Kovac might not last until the Bundesliga goes on its winter break just before Christmas.
