Fornals In Arsenal Link
Arsenal are eyeing up a €20million (£17.8million) move for the Villareal midfielder Pablo Fornals.
The 22-year-old scored a goal of the season contender with a 40-yard volley in his side’s 3-0 victory at Athletic Bilbao in September. The Sun claims Unai Emery wants him in his Arsenal side and that he wants to make a move in January.
However, the Gunners’ director of football Raul Sanllehi isn’t expected to sanction any move for Fornals until the summer. Sanllehi has ruled out making any signings in the winter transfer window. That was after Arsenal spent almost £70million on new players in the summer.
But The Sun believes the Gunners will offload Egypt international midfielder Mohamed Elneny to help fund any move for Fornals. An offer in the region of £15million could see Elneny move on and trigger a bid.
However, Fornals says he isn’t interested in a move to England – at least for now. Plus, Villareal are likely to point to the release clause in his contract with the club that is reported to be €30million (£26.7million).
This isn’t the first time Arsenal have been linked with Fornals. Football Gossip reported as long ago as April 2017 that he was being watched by the Premier League club. He was with Malaga at that time. But he also said then that he wasn’t interest in a move only to quit at the end of the season when Villareal paid his €12million release fee.
West Ham United and Fulham are also being linked with Fornals and it was the interest of those clubs that forced him to rule out any move. The prospect of a transfer to the Emirates may generate a different response.
Villareal currently lie just one point above the La Liga relegation zone having won just twice in their opening 12 games.
