England Keeper In United Sights
Manchester United will bid £60million for Everton keeper Jordan Pickford if David De Gea quits the club. That’s according to one newspaper report today.
De Gea is out of contract at the end of the season although United have an option to extend his current deal by an additional year. The Red Devils are expected to trigger that option by the end of this year. Otherwise, De Gea will be free to speak to overseas clubs from 1 January. Even if the option is triggered it will only lead to the Spaniard being sold at the end of the season rather than allow him to leave for nothing at the end of the 2019-20 campaign.
But according to The Sun On Sunday, United are eyeing up a move for England keeper Pickford if De Gea does leave. The paper doesn’t give any concrete evidence. However, there were reports of United interest as far back as February.
Everton will be reluctant to part with a player who cost them £30million when they signed him from Sunderland in the summer of 2017.
Juventus have been linked with interest in De Gea. The Serie A side could put in a bid in the summer. Waiting an additional year and landing him on a free transfer is also an option.
Talks have taken place between United and the Spaniard over a new deal. However, it is thought to be decision based on De Gea’s personal ambitions rather than any financial considerations.
