Spurs, Inter In Chase For Brazilian
Tottenham Hotspur are being linked with a move for Barcelona winger Malcom.
The 21-year-old moved to the Nou Camp from French side Bordeaux only this summer for a fee of €40million (£35million). It was a controversial move. Bordeaux had agreed a fee with Serie A side Roma only for Barca to hijack the deal at the last minute. Roma fans were already at the city’s airport to welcome Malcom only for Bordeaux to order him off the flight before its departure.
According to Corriere dello Sport in Italy, Inter Milan and Tottenham are set to battle it out for the Brazilian after he failed to make an impression under Barca coach Ernesto Valverde. He has made just two substitute appearances in La Liga totalling 25 minutes of football leading to speculation over his future after less than three months at the club.
Corriere dello Sport believes Barca would be interested in a permanent deal rather than a loan – but only if they get back their €40million investment.
For his part, Malcom would prefer to stay and fight for his place in the side, but with Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele in front of him in the pecking order opportunities look few and far between.
With no senior international appearances for Brazil, Malcom wouldn’t automatically be granted a UK work permit. It would then go to the size of the fee and a £35million transfer would possibly swing it in his favour. But Spurs famously elected not to enter the transfer market this summer and with costs escalating at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium it remains to be seen whether they will go for a permanent deal or offer Malcom a loan in the second half of the season.
