Manchester United striker Anthony Martial has rejected the club’s latest contract offer.

Martial is out of contract at the end of the season although the club are expected to trigger a one-year contract extension before the end of December. Otherwise, the Frenchman will be free to speak to other clubs over a pre-contract agreement.

According to Sky Sports, Martial has rejected the club’s latest offer. There have been conflicting reports from France with one outlet, radio station RMC, claiming that not only he has rejected a number of offers from United but that he is likely to put pen to paper on a new deal.

Indeed, both may be true. Martial’s agent insisted during the summer that the 22-year-old wanted to leave Manchester United. That followed a difficult second half to last season where he fell down the pecking order with the arrival from Arsenal of Alexis Sanchez at the end of January.

Martial still isn’t an automatic first choice for Jose Mourinho. But his brace against Chelsea last weekend brought his total to the season to three goals in six Premier League games (four starts and two appearances off the bench) along with one in three Champions League appearances.

Mourinho ‘Not Confident’ Over De Gea

Meanwhile, the situation is looking more serious about United keeper David De Gea. Reports earlier this week claimed he is a target for Serie A giants Juventus.

But Jose Mourinho admitted on Friday that he doesn’t have a good feeling over a new deal for the Spaniard.

“I am not confident,” the United boss told Sky Sports. “I cannot find the word in English, but let’s see what happens.

“Only the club, David and his people can answer that. My comment is only that everyone knows how good he is, how important he is for Manchester United and, if the club want to be better than it is and not worse, obviously it would be very important to keep David.”

De Gea’s situation mirrors that of Martial. He is out of contract next summer but the club have an option to extend that by another year. Like Martial, De Gea has been in talks for some momths over a new deal.
