Pogba Exit Could Hit Income
Any decision by Manchester United to sell Paul Pogba is being fuelled by commercial concerns according to reports today.
The France international is being linked with a move away from Old Trafford with Barcelona and his former club Juventus among those said to be interested. But according to the Daily Mail commercial chiefs at Old Trafford are worried that the club’s income could take a hit when it comes to Pogba’s value. The forward is often at the centre of poster campaigns undertaken by the club.
The paper claims United have considered a number of potential replacements for Pogba but none are as big a commercial draw as the 25-year-old. There is also the problem of having to spend over £100million on any replacement. Gareth Bale was considered, but he elected to stay at Real Madrid. There is unlikely to be any move for the Welshman next summer as he turns 30 in July and United tend to lose interest in players once they reach that age.
Pogba’s relationship with manager Jose Mourinho remains troubled and rumours over the summer suggested he could be on his way out of Old Trafford. But United rejected an offer from Barcelona of £40million plus defender Yerry Mina and winger Andre Gomes. An all-cash offer remains out of the reach of the La Liga giants.
United are likely to sit tight with regards to Pogba. He signed a five-year deal at the club when he moved from Juventus in 2016 so his current deal runs to 2021.
Martial Rumours On A Roll
More reports that Anthony Martial is set to sign a new deal with Manchester United.
The Frenchman was linked in the summer with a move away from the club after falling down the pecking order following the arrival of Alexis Sanchez in January.
It was claimed on Wednesday that Martial has had a change of heart and is looking to put pen to paper.
ESPN claims to have been told by ‘sources’ that Martial is ready to sign a five-year deal. It may be that the outlet is merely parrotting the same rumours that have been circulating.
French radio station RMC appears to be the source of these latest rumours although it was suggesting last week that Martial has rejected a number of offers from United.
