Real Madrid News: Conte Could End Hazard Hopes

Italian Linked With Real Move

Former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is being linked with a move to Real Madrid. But that could spell the end of Eden Hazard’s hopes of a move to the Bernabeu.

As Football Gossip reported last week Real have made contact with Conte over the possibility of replacing current manager Julen Lopetegui. The job of the former head coach of the Spain national side is under threat following a 2-1 home defeat to Levante on Saturday. The result has left Real in seventh place in La Liga with a Champions League tie with Viktoria Plzen tonight followed by a trip to the Nou Camp for the El Clasico clash with Barcelona at the weekend.

Conte and the coach of Real Madrid’s B team Santi Solari are the candidates to replace Lopetegui if he goes.

Chelsea forward Eden Hazard has also been linked with a move to Real Madrid and has been public over his desire for a move to the Bernabeu.

But if Conte is appointed Real’s next manager then it could scupper Hazard’s ambitions. The Belgium international endured a difficult relationship with Conte over the two seasons that the two men worked together at Stamford Bridge.

Solari is favourite to take over – but only to the end of the season. If he does take the job on a temporary contract he could earn the post on a permanent basis if results go his way.

Meanwhile, Lopetegui is refusing to throw in the towel despite a La Liga season that has seen Real lose three of their opening nine games.

”Results haven’t been great but we are going to turn this around,” he said at a press conference ahead of tonight’s game.

“What I’ve learned about this club is to fight, that is the DNA of this club. That’s what we’re going to do, fight, both the players and the coaching staff.”

Jose Mourinho is also being linked although he has tried to talk down rumours suggesting he may be lined up for a return to a club he left under something of a cloud in 2013.
