United Boss ‘Wants To See Out Contract’
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has tried to play down rumours over a move back to Real Madrid.
The United boss is being linked with a return to the Bernabeu where coach Julen Lopetegui looks set to be sacked following a poor start to the season.
“All I am thinking about at the moment is Manchester United,” Mourinho said at a press conference on Monday.
Mourinho is in his third season at Old Trafford. Last year he signed a deal that expires in 2020.
“I am happy to see out my contract to the very last day of that contract and I would like to stay after my contract runs out as well,” he added.
Mourinho was in charge at Real between 2010 and 2013 winning the Copa del Rey in 2011 and the La Liga title in 2012 before being sacked.
United take on Juventus in a Champions League clash this evening. The match sees two players facing their former clubs. Cristiano Ronaldo returns to Old Trafford for the first time in a Juventus shirt while Paul Pogba takes on the Serie A side for the first time since he left for Manchester United in an £89million transfer in 2016.
Mourinho faced questions over whether or not Pogba would play against Juventus. He was also asked if he thought Pogba had matured in the manner he would have hoped over the past two years.
“I don’t like this press conference,” he replied. “I don’t want to speak about Pogba or other individuals, or Spanish journalists who are only interested in Real Madrid and Ronaldo.
“We are playing against one of the biggest clubs in the world, one of the candidates for the competition and that is what motivates me and brings me here.
“They have a lot to offer and an extra year with the same coach and structure. They have won seven titles on the trot and a really special player who makes a real difference.
“They are more than a contender for the Champions League.”
