Ake Dismisses United Link
Bournemouth defender Nathan Ake has played down reports that he is a transfer target for Manchester United.
The 23-year-old Netherlands international has been linked with interest from Old Trafford, but he says he is concentrating on maintaining Bournemouth’s impressive start to the season.
“I’ve seen it pass by but of course it’s rumours,” Ake told footballoranje.com.
“At the moment I am playung at Bournemouth and that is going well, so I am focussing on that. This does not say much about my status yet. They are rumours on the internet and as long as I do not hear anything myself, I will not go into that.”
Ake moved to the south coast in the summer of 2017 from Chelsea where he played under Jose Mourinho during the United boss’s second spell at Stamford Bridge.
The Dutchman played in all 38 of the Cherries’ Premier League games last season – 37 starts and one appearance off the bench – and has been on the pitch of every minute of their eight league matches so far this campaign.
De Gea Offered Huge New Deal
Meanwhile, reports claim Manchester United have offered David De Gea a new contract that would make him the highest-paid player in their first-team squad.
The Spain international is out of contract at the end of this season although United are expected to trigger a clause in his current deal that would see the contract extended by another year to 2020. This is expected to happen before January. Without that, De Gea can speak to overseas clubs over a pre-contract agreement.
But reports from Spain claim the club’s offer of a new deal would put him on over £500,000 a week. That equates to the earnings of current top earner Alexis Sanchez.
De Gea is still stalling over putting pen to paper on a new contract. He has made 325 appearances for United since moving to the club from Atletico Madrid in 2011.
