Belgian Rules Out January Exit
Chelsea midfielder Eden Hazard claims he was told at the end of last season that he would not be able to leave Stamford Bridge in the summer. But he insists he had no problem with the club’s decision.
Hazard was linked for much of last season with a move to Real Madrid. He publicly talked up the La Liga side’s then coach Zinedine Zidane and he has suggested during over the course of this season that a move to the Bernabeu would be “a dream”.
But speaking to French TV programme Telefoot, Hazard said he isn’t looking to force through any move.
“Chelsea were clear with me: I couldn’t leave the club. I accepted it. Anyway… leaving or staying, I was going to be happy. I do not regret this decision at all.
“When decisions are made you can sulk and often you get the last word. But I will never look to clash with the club. Chelsea have given me a lot.
“I left Lille on good terms and I want to do the same thing here.”
The Belgium international also ruled out a move away from Stamford Bridge in the winter transfer window.
“A transfer in January? It’s not possible.”
