Ramsey In Fresh United Link
Manchester United are set to make a third move for Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey. The Wales international looks set to leave the Emirates after the Gunners withdrew the offer of a new deal.
Sir Alex Ferguson tried to sign Ramsey before the midfielder moved to Arsenal from Cardiff City in 2008. United also made a bid to sign the 27-year-old last summer after making an enquiry. That move was scuppered by Unai Emery who had only just been appointed manager of the Gunners. He wanted to keep all his top stars close to him to make his own assessment.
But Arsenal have since changed their stance over Ramsey. After putting in the offer of a new deal, that was then withdrawn by the club and he has been told he will be leaving whether he likes it or not.
Ramsey insisted this week that he won’t leave Arsenal before the end of the season. But United may well prefer a transfer in the January transfer market. That would suit Arsenal as it means they would at least receive a transfer fee.
Juventus are also being linked although much depends on whether they can recruit another free transfer: Paris Saint-Germain’s Adrien Rabiot. Ramsey is free to speak to overseas clubs from 1 January.
£53m Bid For Serbian Defender
Manchester United have put in a bid for Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic according to reports from Italy.
Manager Jose Mourinho watched the 21-year-old in action for Serbia against Montenegro on Thursday night. Reports had suggested that he was in Podgorica to watch Milenkovic’s international team-mate Sergey Milinkovic-Savic who was linked with United for much of last season.
But according to the Florence-based newspaper La Nazione, Mourinho instructed the United hierarchy to put in a bid for Milnekovic. It claims the Red Devils have offered €60million (£53million).
Milenkovic is in only his second season at Fiorentina following his arrival from Partizan Belgrade in the summer of 2017. He made 14 starts and two appearances off the bench in Serie A last season and has followed that up by playing every minute of their eight league games so far this campaign.
De Gea, Valencia Sit Tight Over Contracts
News of two current Manchester United players whose contracts expire soon.
First of all United are set to trigger an extension clause to David De Gea’s current deal with the club.
The Spain international goalkeeper has been offered a new deal worth £375,000 a week to remain at Old Trafford. His present contract expires at the end of the season, but if he fails to put pen to paper by 1 January the club will trigger a one-year extension. His contract would then expire in 2020.
As it stands, De Gea will be free to speak to overseas clubs from 1 January about a pre-contract agreement.
Full-back Antonio Valencia is also out of contract at the end of the season. But his deal includes a clause allowing him to negotiate with any other club from 1 March should the Red Devils decide not to trigger his one-year extension.
Clubs from Germany and Turkey are said to be interested in the 33-year-old.
