But Lazio Midfielder Only Plays Ten Minutes
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho personally scouted Lazio midfielder Sergey Milinkovic-Savic on Thursday night. However, the Serbia international only played ten minutes of his country’s 2-0 victory over Montenegro.
Milinkovic-Savic was a United target for much of last season. But Lazio put a price tag of over £100million which deterred the Premier League side as well as other potential suitors such as Juventus and Real Madrid.
The 23-year-old was part of the Serbia squad for the Nations League clash with Montenegro in Podgorica. However, he only came on as a substitute in the 80th minute. Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic scored twice for the Serbs.
Milinkovic-Savic signed a new deal last month with Lazio. But disappointingly for United, there is no release clause in the deal.
“Nobody talked about the clause,” his agent Mateja Kezman said at the time. “Sergej is very happy in Rome, he’s been here for three years, he loves the club and the city, he’s concentrating on getting back in the best shape!”
He added: “Sergei, Lazio, all of us in his entourage: we are all very happy with the new contract. We are going forward with a positive energy! The club is strong because it has kept almost all of last season’s players. It is a serious project and they want to play the Champions League, so everyone has to concentrate on doing their best in every game, so as to make all the Lazio fans happy!”
