Mourinho Still Convinced There Are Plans To Replace Him
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho will have talks with executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward later today with the United boss still convinced the club are planning to sack him.
Mourinho will meet Woodward in London with the United supremo due to have a board meeting on Thursday.
Mourinho will use the meeting to try and gauge whether or not United are indeed lining up a replacement for him. Zinedine Zidane is being strongly linked although the agent of the former Real Madrid coach insisted earlier this week that he has no interest of ever managing in England.
The fact that there are no suitable candidates will play into Mourinho’s hands. If he is satisfied that he isn’t being lined up for the sack then he will use the meeting to talk about January transfer targets. United had a disappointing summer transfer window with Mourinho’s demand for a new defender not being met by the board.
The United boss has spent over £350million since he arrived at Old Trafford two years ago. Around £60million of that was spent on centre-backs Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof both of whom are now being regarded as flops.
United tend not to spend heavily in the winter market. They signed Alexis Sanchez at the beginning of this year although the Chilean arrived from Arsenal in a swap deal that saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan head in the opposite direction.
United Target Facing Jail
Meanwhile, Manchester United transfer target Aleksandar Kokorin faces up to five years in jail after being filmed attacking a Russian trade ministry official.
Zenit St Petersburg forward Kokorin and Krasnodar’s Pavel Mamaev were filmed beating up civil servant Dennis Pak in a Moscow restaurant on Monday night. The pair also aimed racial slurs at Pak who is of Korean ancestry.
Some outlets claim Kokorin is wanted by United. He has been linked in the past with interest from Arsenal.
