Henry, Terry Set For Villa Job
Thierry Henry appears to be closing in on the Aston Villa job after it emerged the Championship side have yet to make a formal approach to Celtic for Brendan Rodgers.
Henry and former Villa defender John Terry are the favourites to form a ‘dream team’ following the sacking last week of Steve Bruce. But Rodgers’ name was also in the frame.
However, reports from Scotland claim today that the Celtic boss has yet to be approached over the vacancy. Furthermore, the Scottish champions aren’t expecting there to be any approach.
Bruce guided Villa to the Championship play-off final in May but his side were beaten by Fulham and have made a disappointing start to the new season. Saturday’s defeat at Millwall sees them drop to 16th place in the table.
Henry is current the assistant manager in the Belgium national team set-up. Terry announced on Sunday that he has now retired as a player. He was released by Villa at the end of last season. Both men have been interviewed by the board although Terry’s interview – like that of Henry – was for the manager’s job.
It is thought that Henry will be offered the manager’s job with Terry acting as his assistant.
